Check Holland America SailingsA Cruise Line Built for a Calmer Pace
Holland America is not built around water slides and go-kart tracks. It is built around comfort, culture, and good food. Many guests come back year after year. Many are repeat cruisers who know exactly what they like about this line.
This does not mean the ships are boring. It means the energy is different. Days feel slower. Evenings feel more elegant. The focus stays on relaxing, eating well, and seeing beautiful places.
The Ships and Where They Sail
Holland America ships tend to be smaller than the mega-ships from other lines. This keeps things feeling personal. It also means fewer crowds at the buffet and the pool.
The fleet includes the Rotterdam, the Nieuw Statendam, the Koningsdam, and the Eurodam, among others. Holland America is well known for Alaska cruises. It also has a strong lineup in the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, and long world cruises. See which ships sail to your favorite destinations before you choose a cabin.
Dining on a Holland America Ship
Food is a big part of the Holland America experience. The line works with a group of well-known chefs called the Culinary Council. They help design menus across the fleet.
Every ship has a main dining room included in the fare. There is also a large buffet called the Lido Market. The Pinnacle Grill is the signature steakhouse on board. It costs extra, but many guests say it is worth it for a special night.

Cabin type, ship, and season all affect the final price. Compare your options directly on Holland America’s site before you book.

Holland America built its entertainment around live music. This is called Music Walk. Most Pinnacle-class ships include Lincoln Center Stage for classical performances and B.B. King’s Blues Club for live blues. On the newest ship, Rotterdam, the Rolling Stone Rock Room takes the place of Lincoln Center Stage. The exact lineup of venues can vary by ship.
Each ship also has a theater, a casino, a spa, and a pool deck. Kids programs are available, but this line leans more toward adults and older travelers than family-focused lines.
What Is Included and What Costs Extra
Your fare covers your cabin, your main dining, and most entertainment. It does not cover everything.
Extra charges often include specialty dining, drinks, WiFi, spa visits, and shore excursions. Holland America offers bundled packages that can include some of these at one price. Check current package deals and pricing before your trip to see what fits your plans.
Tips Before You Book
Book Alaska and world cruises early
These sailings are some of the most popular on this line. The best cabins sell out months ahead. Book early if either trip is on your list.
Consider this line if you want a quieter trip
Loud pool decks and nonstop activities are not the focus here. If that sounds appealing, this line may fit you better than some of the bigger family-focused brands.
Check the specialty dining packages
If the Pinnacle Grill or other specialty spots interest you, look at dining packages before you sail. Buying ahead can save money over paying per visit.
